Functional Reflex Therapy
Caroline Sargent at natural-balance reflexology is a qualified reflexologist offering Functional Reflex Therapy (FRT) for children and adults with special needs in the Luton area. FRT was developed by Lorraine Senior, a reflexologist and former teacher with over 20 years experience of working with children and adults with special needs.
FRT is a combination of relaxation techniques drawn from reflexology. As a qualified reflexologist I use FRT as a base for providing tailored relaxation sessions, which incorporate individual reflexology techniques. FRT is a sequence of repetitive, calming movements that have been found to be helpful for children and adults with:
The primary outcome of reflexology using the Functional Reflex Therapy approach is relaxation and looks to offer support for those adults and children with communication issues, with the use of the FRT tool kit where appropriate. The therapy encourages the body to relax and relieves tension through a combination of positive touch and relaxation techniques. The intention is to stimulate the many well-being hormones in the brain that help to create calming conditions which may encourage a better focus and concentration.
It offers people with learning disabilities an opportunity to engage in an activity that is about nurturing their wellbeing, improving their mood and reducing anxiety. Treatments can be given to both the hands and the feet according to the individual's preference.
For more information about the benefits of FRT at home / in schools / daycentres / care homes etc give me a call or see the Functional Reflex Therapy website .
Functional Reflex Therapy is being offered in schools in Bedfordshire and offers young people a lovely sensory experience which helps to calm and keep them focused in the moment.
For others it gives them a bit of one to one time with their choice of music and a bit of nurturing with cushions and a fluffy blanket.
Functional Reflex Therapy - as relaxing for the giver as the receiver
